Little Simz Opens Up on New Album “NO THANK YOU”

Less than eight weeks after winning the Mercury award for her 2021 album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, Little Simz has delivered her surprise album NO THANK YOU. At such a seemingly pivotal point in her career, many may expect Little Simz to attempt a mainstream rollout with months of leadup time, but instead the rising UK artist offered it as a surprise drop taking hip-hop fans by storm with a last second AOTY contender.

Centering the subject matter around mental health, specifically maintaining a good mental headspace while navigating the music industry, this had clearly been an important subject for Little Simz who parted ways with her manager of seven years just months before. However, the project ends on a positive and optimistic note with “Control”, a simple love song with a raw piano production in the background.

An album full of innovative production and Simz’ clever lyricism, the budding United Kingdom artist was spot on in saying “This ain’t music one overlooks,” which she states on track 8 “Sideways”. This album is most definitely not background music, but rather a project meant to be digested overtime and a generous offering to look into the mind of one of hip-hops quickest rising artists as she battles the mental challenges of the music industry. Make sure to check out NO THANK YOU below.
