MAVI Returns With Sophomore Album “Laughing So Hard, It Hurts”
It feels lately that an album is losing the significance it once held, with so many amazing bodies of work releasing this year and so little enthusiasm for them mere weeks, sometimes days, after the release. This didn’t stop Charlotte native, MAVI, from releasing what already in my eyes feels like a classic album. After his innovative debut album Let the Sun Talk, MAVI has made his highly anticipated return to deliver his sophomore album Laughing So Hard, It Hurts and off the first few listens you can immediately hear the passion and personal experience dumped into this album.
Once again, MAVI finds himself pioneering a new sound with this project, with soothing drums and a much more controlled delivery compared to what we’d heard on recent releases, yet he’s still able to convey the passion in his voice that makes his music so impactful to listeners. The majority of the production comes from Dylvinci and Wulf Morpheus, with occasional appearances from Monte Booker, Ovrkast. and Jacob Rochester, making for a very cohesive sound which can only be found on a project with select collaborators such as this one.
I had the opportunity to sit in on a few recording sessions of this project, and the energy surrounding the recording, leading up to the rollout, and even shooting the videos, I could feel this was going to be one for the books. It’s refreshing to see an artist with the integrity and care for their work the way MAVI and his team display. Everything from the tasteful videos to the beautiful cover art and of course sonically inspiring music, there truly was no weak point surrounding this album.
With album two of two shaping up to be a timeless one, the future looks bright for MAVI and we can’t wait to continue to watch his story unfold. Make sure to check out Laughing So Hard, It Hurts below.
