Deshawn Visionz Drops New Album “Home, What’s Home?”
Sacramento based artist Deshawn Visionz shares his latest project “Home, What’s Home?” Released on September 16, this project shows the development Deshawn’s sound has made since the release of his first album “Stranded” in 2021. The 22-year old rapper takes a more traditional hip hop route with this project – rapping over downtempo instrumentals with the focus on his lyrical content.
Deshawn takes his time to explore powerful ideas through metaphors and turns of phrases, his poetic-style gives life to his meaningful words – it is the perfect compliment for the jazz-inspired instrumentals. The overall chill vibe showcases the conscious rapper's laid-back and introspective style over the 9-track project.
When listening for the first time, one can’t help but appreciate the cohesiveness throughout the record – the production and subject matter are sonically consistent and when it comes to the features everything makes sense and seems to fit perfectly together like a puzzle. A highlight on the album is the track “Until Next Time” where Deshawn does a cover of the song “You Make Me Wanna…” by the great Usher – giving it the feel of an old song made new.
The project explores Deshawn’s life over the past year going through his experiences in relationships and the adversity he faced with music. On the song “Don’t Worry” he raps the lyrics “A million rappers but who known about, it’s hard to be that number one when two got all the clout” confronting the problem in this generation of music, where there are artist with more “clout” than others but may not be nearly as talented to someone who may not have “clout.”
With a sound reminiscent of J.I.D or early J. Cole, Deshawn Visionz is setting himself apart from the rest in that he is staying true to the roots of hip hop and speaking on topics that popular music refrains from. As he continues to carve out his lane he will soon be a prominent artist in hip hop.
