Pariah Pete Releases Summer Vibe “Sunkissed”
Arizona native Pariah Pete and his band The Mercuries are a sonic expression of love. Steadily growing their audience over the past few years, they managed to gain over 400,000 streams since the start of 2020. Opening up for artists in the likes of Doja Cat, Smino, and Earthgang – Pete and The Mercuries have been dedicated to their sound and are focused on setting themselves apart from the rest. Referring to their audience as a “community,” they’ve created a relationship with their fans like no other. Gaining recognition for their single “The Finest,” which has accumulated over 150,000 total streams – The Mercuries are a promising band fusing different elements from jazz, funk and soul.
Pete is back with a new summer jam “Sunkissed” – the production sets the tone for the entire track as the bass line is the driving factor of the groove, with the top line melody bringing the summer feel. Pete's lyricism ties everything together as he gives the song a feeling of nostalgia – reminiscent of a classic hip hop song with the vocals being the focal point of the song. Serving as the first song that was live-produced with the band, it exhibits the chemistry within the band. The chorus sings “come and take a ride with me, sitting in the driver seat,” painting the picture of rolling around with your friends on a summer day.
“Sunkissed” is an evolution of Pete’s sound and a result of a new creative process he has adopted. Being written by Pete and The Mercuries and produced by Stravs and Jacob Unterriener, it’s lyrically intricate with a unique structure. While the track is a turning point in Pete’s career, it’s just the beginning – The Mercuries haven’t stopped working as they are already back in the studio working to fuse sounds from 80’s synth funk with latin jazz. As Pariah Pete said on the outro of the track “I wanna make the shit that you can cry to, get high to, [and] finally put the past behind you,” he is accomplishing just that as he is pushing the needle forward in lyricism and emotion.
