Solomon Fox Has Delivered His Lush Single “Never Let Me Go”
Singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Solomon Fox has proven to be a very talented artist whose rise has no limits given his many talents. The North Carolina-native gained recognition and success in 2019 when he produced the Gospel-influenced song Stand Up, for the soundtrack of the film Harriet. Working along with fellow songwriters Joshuah Campbell and Cynthia Erivo, they would go on to earn Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Song. From then he was able to work closely with Smino on his mixtape S.A.D, producing the tracks Mike Jones and Year of the Goat. His work didn’t stop there, for the second consecutive year he was nominated at the 64th annual Grammy Awards for his production of You Are Exactly Like No One, from Pierce Freelon’s album Black to the Future.
A very accomplished producer on his own, Solomon Fox is breaking grounds by not only producing hits for other artists but also producing for himself. An underlying skill one must practice in that it is very different to produce for yourself as it is to produce for someone else. Solomon has accomplished both and in that it gives him the most amount of freedom when it comes to creating because he can either pitch it to someone else or use it for himself. With the release of his newest single Never Let Me Go, Solomon turns back time a little. This track is a mixture of 70’s funk and r&b. The melancholy melody is layered with a bass guitar and ambient bells that compliment the slowed drums in a way that sonically sounds like an r&b track that has a funk groove. This bright love song shares a vulnerable side of Solomon as he kicks off the song with the lyrics “I’m in too deep, can’t you see that you're casting a spell on me.” Giving detail about being so in love that he is beginning to be consumed by the amount of emotions has; so much that it feels as if he is under a spell. The title of the song being the chorus, it also serves as the theme of the song. If you are familiar with Childish Gambino and his album Awaken, My Love! This single is reminiscent of that as Solomon Fox gives his take on the 70’s era of music.
